Hi and welcome.
I am Naomi Oakley, a mother of three adult children, a police veteran and director of U-nome Security firm for approx. 30 years, based in Victoria.
This is my story, my life’s experience assisting people when they need help with their personal safety, their family’s safety and safety for their work colleagues. I am proud to be launching Sitrep Training in 2024, a division of U-nome Security.
I believe that I have an exceptional and unique perspective on the importance of situational awareness. My personal skills have proven to be incomparable to others in the safety industry. As my previous and existing clients can confirm.
The years of experience and face-to-face knowledge I have, can’t be trained online or simply from reading a workbook.
It must be real, it must be taught on a personal level, engaging each attendee with their personal issues and challenges. They need be enabled (after the workshop) to handle their concerns.
As a frontline responder in countless, different, and diverse community environments which have involved the immediate need for de-escalating of aggression and scanning for risk.
For my academic qualifications (please see below) my featured qualifications include Conflict Resolution.
Safety Insights from Police Experience
Drawing from my 12-years of experience with the Victoria Police, this was the day-to-day chaos:
- handling situations such as pub & clubs’ brawls
- violent domestic incidents
- fast-food outlet brawls
- aggravated burglaries
- and pursuits, on foot and in police vehicles, with lights and bells, is a whole new dynamic on the roads – navigating at speeds safely!
On 2 occasions throughout my police career, I had to ‘challenge’ someone. Challenge means to draw your firearm out and then state, “Police don’t move”!
I can tell you on both occasions, adrenalin is running high – having your firearm out is a big deal and no police member ever wants to use this!
So, each situation was slightly different, but required an extensive debrief afterwards.
Situations report, hence my business name SITREP.
Safety Insights from my Security Experience:
Includes many diverse types of security detail, the list is too long, here is a summary:
- Liaising with the client
- Performing on site risk assessments – nationwide – as required
- Risk management.
- Debriefing with clients on relevant safety issues to either them or other assets.
- Emergency procedures to deliver to health/aged care staff – on national scale.
NAOMI OAKLEY
Experience in, but not limited to:
A. Security within Mental Health – the delicate approach of security from a Women’s perspective
B. Security within hospitality. Challenges of substance abuse / trauma of family violence survivors and how to respond. The hospital is a community and security should be represent that community – how can you have male bouncers respond in an empathetic way when they are dressed like police and are muscle bound with arms crossed!
C. Security for VIP/Celebrity (Importance of confidentiality /discretion)
D. Security within Aviation from screening passengers coming into the airport, to assuming the role of a teacher carrying discreet items to ensure staff are on the ball and have identified the threat, to providing training to cabin crew safety tips on keeping themselves safe in the air.
Speaking of celebrities… During this time I received a kiss from Keith Richards as he was coming through the airport after the Rolling Stones gig the night before, I met them (except Mick) through my former husband Jerome Smith who played with Keith, Keith Richards –The X Pensive Winos, and Mick (Wandering Spirit Album). The night before Ronnie Wood gave me a kiss and said I was the nicest looking cop that he’d seen – so – it was not long after I left the Victorian police. Ha! Ha!
E. Security within youth events (adapting security to the environment)
F. Security within community events (multiple security situations can present)
G. Security within funerals/weddings (family emotions running high)
H. Security to protect property (overnight – generally when property is damaged)
I. Security supporting family violence survivors (from meeting clients, assisting with personal safety and property protection, attending court and in some cases involving law enforcement for breaches of IVO’s.
My skills and expertise are revealed in hands-on, in real world practical environments, hence, communities can apply the same principles in their day-to-day activities and keep themselves safe.
Sitrep Training was borne out of necessity, all my skills and years of experience are interwoven in this two and half-hour training period. Two hours of training and approx. 30 mins of practical, hands-on walk around the room, office venue etc. to ensure every attendee understands the where, when and how of safety in their space, whether going to work, at work and on the way home from work.
My aim is to empower individuals, businesses, and communities to proactively manage risks, mitigate harmful behaviours and prioritize the safety of everyone involved.
